The 麻豆社国产Pirates swimming team has a few new faces at the helm of the ship for the 2015 summer season.
Promoted to head coach is long-time assistant coach Emily Hennigar. She took over from former head coach Daniel Russell in January after he had to step away to continue his studies at Simon Fraser University.
Hennigar swam with the Pirates for six years before being named an assistant coach for the team in 2012.聽
鈥淕rowing up, the Pirates Swim Club played a huge role in helping me to develop confidence, a strong work ethic, and a love for physical exercise, all in a positive, team environment that I truly enjoyed,鈥 she stated in a news release. 鈥淎s a coach, I hope to pass along these values to the new generation of swimmers.鈥
Also joining the staff as an assistant coach is Wyatt Pedersen. The 2013 Howe Sound Secondary School grad swam with the Pirates for 11 years and competed in the AAA level with the West Vancouver Otters for one year.聽
鈥淢y goal is to create technically skilled and healthy swimmers so that they can keep swimming and continue to become faster and faster,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 will do my best to pass on the skills I have learned.鈥
Pedersen and Hennigar are joined on the staff by returning assistant coach Alex Jevons, who will be working primarily with the junior swimmers.
The summer season for the Pirates officially kicked off on Monday (May 4). Swimmers hit the pool every weekday to prepare for meets later this year.
The Pirates鈥 local swim meet will be held May 31 at Brennan Park pool, with more than 300 swimmers from all over the Lower Mainland scheduled to compete. The team will attend eight meets in the Lower Mainland over the summer before the regionals on Aug. 8 and 9 at the North Shore Winter Club.
