Pirates shine at provincials

Several locals achieve personal bests at BCSSA Provincials

Only one member of the 麻豆社国产Pirates returned home with a medal after the B.C. Summer Swimming Association (BCSSA) Provincial meet in Coquitlam, which concluded on Sunday (Aug. 18).

Pirates head coach Daniel Russell reached the podium with a third-place showing in the 100-metre backstroke and also placed ninth in the 50 m freestyle.

Mikayla Lorimer just missed out on the podium, with a fourth-place finish as part of the regional medley relay. She also placed seventh in the 100 backstroke, 16th in the 200 individual medley and 22nd in the 50 butterfly.

Pirates junior coach Sarah Dale also placed fourth in the regional medley relay race, 16th in the 100 breaststroke and 18th in the 100 freestyle.

KJ Kimura had a strong weekend, with a fifth-place finish in the regional medley relay race and seventh in the 100 breaststroke. Jack Omeasoo also achieved a sixth-place finish on the regional medley relay team.

Other Pirates who competed at the event were Jaina Jose, Myrthe Haddeman and Oli Jarrett.

"The Pirates Swim Club is proud of all our swimmers and look forward to starting the new season on Oct. 1 after the pool reopens," D'Arcy Lorimer, Pirates vice-president, wrote in an email.
