It was a good day to be a Pirate on Sunday (May 26).
The 麻豆社国产Pirates Swim Club hosted its annual meet at Brennan Park pool on Sunday with some incredible results for locals.
麻豆社国产swimmer Eli Chappell smashed two meet records at the event en route to a memorable day. Chappell set a new mark in the 100-metre backstroke, eclipsing the previous record by more than seven seconds. He also established a new mark in the 100 freestyle, three seconds faster than the old record.
Local swimmer Wyatt Pedersen also had a great day, setting a new meet record in his division for the 200 individual medley and grabbing first place in the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle.
Youngster Brian McDonald also fared well, grabbing three first-place showings (50 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke) and a second (50 backstroke).
Other Pirates team members who placed in the top three in their divisions included: KJ Kimura (first 50 freestyle, first 100 breaststroke, second 50 fly and second 200 individual medley), Alex Jevons (third 100 backstroke), Jack Omeasoo (second 50 fly), Mikayla Lorimer (first 50 fly and second 100 backstroke), George Sherlock (first 100 backstroke and second 100 fly), Luke Parry (second 50 freestyle), Jaina Jose (third 50 fly and third 50 breaststroke) and Ryan Cramb (second 50 fly and third 50 breaststroke).
The Pirates boys Division 6 relay team also picked up first in the 200 individual medley and the 200 freestyle.
Pirates vice-president D'Arcy Lorimer said it was a great day for the club.
It turned out great and we finished nearly on time thanks to many, many dedicated volunteers, he said in an email. We ended up with 280 swimmers, including 32 enthusiastic swimmers from the Pirates. We will be competing throughout the summer in the Greater Vancouver region until our regional meet back here in 麻豆社国产on Aug. 3 and 4, and then off to the provincials in Coquitlam in late August.
