The playoffs are now set in the Howe Sound Men's Soccer League (HSMSL) after the conclusion of the league's regular season on Sunday (March 18).
Defending champion Galileo continued its hot streak heading into the postseason, defeating the Ellis Moving Eagles 2-0. It's the third straight win for the club, which finished third overall with a record of nine wins, five losses and one tie.
Scoring for Galileo were Lawrence Gauthier and Cristian Oreamuno and it was the second straight shutout for the team. The Eagles dropped to three wins, nine losses and two ties on the season, good for fifth place in the HSMSL.
Sikh Temple finished the season on a high note, blanking Zephyr 5-0. Justin Cheema scored three goals, with Nevin Binning and Paul Sangha adding singles. Temple scored an impressive 62 goals in 15 games, the highest in the league and finished in second with a record of 11 wins, three losses and one tie. Zephyr placed sixth with a record of zero wins, 14 losses and one tie.
Temple's Bruno Freitas picked up the league's golden boot trophy as top scorer. Freitas poured in 25 goals to more than double the total of second-place finisher Gary O'Neil from Khalsa.
The day's other game saw Automind pick up a default 1-0 victory over Khalsa. The win left Automind with a record of seven wins, seven losses and one tie on the year, good for fourth place. Khalsa dropped to 12 wins and three losses on the year and posted the top record in the league.
The playoffs begin on Sunday (March 25) with Automind taking on the Ellis Moving Eagles and Galileo battling Zephyr. Khalsa and Sikh Temple received byes and will wait another week until they hit the pitch.
