Sikh Temple might have been saving its best soccer for the most important time of the year.
Temple kicked off the Howe Sound Men's Soccer League's (HSMSL) round robin playoff action with a 4-1 win over the Ellis Moving Eagles on Sunday (March 24) and vaulted into first place early in the playoffs.
Junior Rai (two), Bruno Freitas and Victor Ihejieto scored for Temple, with Cam Ellis tallying the lone goal for the Eagles.
Sunday's other game saw Galileo and Automind play to a 2-2 tie. Charlie Robinson and Griffin Dare picked up the goal for Automind, with Grant Manthey and Cristian Oreamuno replying for Galileo.
The new playoff format for the league will see each team play each other once in five separate game days taking place on Wednesdays and Sundays. Wins will be tallied up and the team with top record at the end of the round robin will be awarded the HSMSL championship.
Action continued on Wednesday (March 27) but results were not available at press time. Teams hit the field again on Sunday (April 7), with Sikh Temple taking on B&B Excavating and the Ellis Moving Eagles battling Automind.
