Shots fired

A man was arrested and his air pistol seized after someone was shooting a gun in Rose Park on Wednesday, April 27, Â鶹Éç¹ú²úRCMP reported. The man was shooting across a busy public walking path and water directly across from a local rock-climbing site, police said.

The pistol was loaded with two 4.5 mm pellets and an active CO2 cartridge, according to RCMP. When police arrived at the scene, they found a man discharging an air pistol at beer cans, police said. The man was intoxicated and was sitting at a park bench, according to RCMP.

Also seized from the scene were open and unopened alcohol containers, some homemade targets and shot beer cans, police said. No one was injured.

Drunk in public

A man was arrested for being drunk in public on Friday, April 29. A large crowd was outside the Ruddy Duck Pub at closing time when police arrived, according to the RCMP report. While police were on scene, a man attempted to gain entry to the rear seats of one of the police cars parked on the street, RCMP said. The man was extremely intoxicated, according to police, and he seemed befuddled when he was made aware that he was not climbing into a taxi but rather a police vehicle. The man was released once he became sober, according to the report.

Bike theft

A $7,000, blue 2016 Transition carbon bicycle was stolen from a business on Saturday, April 30. A man took the bike for a test drive and failed to return, RCMP said. Police describe the man as 5 foot 10 inches, 170 lb., in his mid to late 30s, with light brown, spiky hair. He was last seen wearing an orange and white plaid shirt, according to Â鶹Éç¹ú²úRCMP. The matter is still under investigation.

Garage B&E

Several items were stolen in a garage break-in on Government Road that likely took place between April 20 and 25, a homeowner reported to RCMP. A Giant Faith white and black, dual-suspension mountain bike, two full-face helmets – one Giro gray and orange helmet and one 661, black and grey helmet – and a box of Stanley hand tools were missing.

Police remind all homeowners to lock their garage doors and to take inventory of their belongings. The Government Road homeowner provided details about a suspicious vehicle, possibly a black Chrysler 300 that might have been in the area when the theft took place, according to police. Officers are interested in identifying this vehicle.

The matter is still under investigation.

Complaint of speeders

A resident living in the area of Edwards Road and Honey Lane reported vehicles were speeding and cutting the corner on Tuesday, April 26, according to Â鶹Éç¹ú²úRCMP.

The resident, who noted many families live in the area, was concerned for children’s safety. RCMP patrolled the area to monitor the situation and contacted the district’s engineering department to discuss possible solutions to the complaints.

Police assist in fire

On Tuesday, April 26, Lions Bay Fire requested the RCMP’s help at Sweetwater Place, where a small fire was burning on a home’s roof. The homeowner was preparing to replace the roof so building supplies had been left on top of the building, police said. The cause of the fire is unknown but did not appear suspicious or deliberate, according to the report. The homeowner arrived and said the house was empty. Contractors were working on the roof earlier that day but had since left.
