The QU Soccer Academy is no more.
Created in early 2010, the academy was started by former Quest University men's soccer head coaches Chris Cerroni and Adam Day. It was designed to help local young players advance their skills and potentially prepare to play soccer at a high level.
But after Cerroni and Day parted ways with Quest University at the end of the Kermodes soccer season in 2010, the amount of time they had to run the academy dwindled.
"This decision has had to come to fruition purely due to the fact that the technical team Chris Cerroni and Adam Day cannot commit to the number of hours in the day it is required to provide a professional development environment in this area," academy directors said in an email. "Both coaches have embarked on soccer coaching careers that continuously take them further away from the Sea to Sky area, making it almost impossible to continue to operate the academy."
Day has been busy since leaving Squamish, working for Arsenal FC in Greece. Maple Ridge-based West Coast Auto Group Football Club recently hired him as the head coach of its micro program. Cerroni has moved on to a number of coaching positions within the British Columbia Soccer Association.
"From everyone at the QU Soccer Academy, we would like to thank everyone who was involved in the academy," the release stated. "Even though we may have only had a brief period of time with player development in the Sea to Sky area, we strongly believe we made an impact and had a small part to play in developing the talent there."
