It might be a case of whether the men鈥檚 or women鈥檚 basketball teams cracks first.
Each remains undefeated, with three wins, after a pair of home games last weekend.聽
The strong start by both teams has vaulted some Kermodes into the ranks of the league leaders. On the women鈥檚 side, Jordin Wilkinson is tied for third in scoring at 17.33 points per game, with teammate Miriam Baumann right behind in fifth with 16.67 points.聽

The men鈥檚 team did have to squeak out a win against Columbia Bible College 81-78 on Friday. On Saturday, though, it was all Kermodes, as they trounced the visiting Kwantlen Eagles 104-63.
As the Kwantlen game wore on, the Kermodes continued to apply pressure, running full court presses even when the game was out of reach for the visitors. Coach Sean Shook said it was not a matter of padding the score but of letting some of his bench get some playing time because of hard work in practice. 鈥淭hey earned the right to get on the floor,鈥 he said, adding, 鈥淲e鈥檙e not trying to run it up.鈥
The Kermodes managed to spread the ball around, as five players finished in double figures, with two more adding nine points each. VandenEkart and Searles led the way with 19 points apiece.
The previous night against Columbia Bible College, VandenEkart came off the bench to lead the team with 32 points while forward Mike West added a dozen.聽
So far, the women鈥檚 team has faced little trouble in its schedule. On Saturday, it nearly doubled up Kwantlen 73-37. Baumann had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Hopkins scored 15 and Wilkinson added 13 points, despite spending much of the second half on the bench with foul trouble.
On Friday, the Kermodes also won easily, beating Columbia Bible College 82-53. Wilkinson led the way with 22 points, while Baumann, Needham and Shahed Aburegeba each scored in double digits. Hopkins added eight points and 14 boards.
Despite the large margins of victory so far, coach Dany Charlery is not taking anything for granted with his young team.鈥淲e鈥檙e still figuring things out,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e鈥檝e got seven new players.鈥
This weekend, the Kermodes hit the road for games against Douglas College and Capilano University.
