Quest finishes sixth at Nationals

Women’s basketball team completes best season ever

Quest’s perfect season hit a road bump at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Nationals.

The Kermodes had gone 23 games without a loss in Pacwest regular season and playoff action, but the women’s team fell 85-52 to Lethbridge College to open the tournament on March 20.

Quest shot just 28 per cent from the field in the loss and couldn’t contain player of the year Alicia Cameron, who went off with 38 points. Quest’s Shayna Cameron (nine points, four rebounds) was named player of the game for Quest.

The loss meant the best the Kermodes could hope for would be a bronze and they won the program’s first-ever win at Nationals by beating the host VIU Mariners 52-41 on Friday (March 21).

Aimee Johnston was awarded player of the game and led the team with 15 points and five rebounds.

Quest then battled the Humber Hawks on Saturday, March 20, but lost 72-60 to end the team’s 2014-15 season. Cameron led the way with 15 points and Miriam Baumann added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

It was the last game in Quest colours for Cameron, who was also named a CCAA All-Canadian last week. Cameron said she will continue playing basketball next year in the CIS, but hasn’t yet decided for which team she will suit up. It was also the final game for graduating players Andrea Eidsvik and Katrin Sandbichler – who may play pro basketball in her native Germany in 2015-16.

Quest finished sixth in the country as a result of the performance at the tournament. The showing is the best ever in the history of the program. For more details, visit www.ccaa.ca/national-championship-s15097.
