Quest golf tourney to tee off

Third annual event coming to SVGC

Quest University is again inviting 麻豆社国产residents to hit the links to help support the school's athletics.

The third annual Quest Kermodes golf tournament is set to take over the 麻豆社国产Valley Golf Club (SVGC) on Thursday (Sept. 8) and co-organizer Mike Woollard said it should be another great event.

"It's a huge event for us," he said. "It's our biggest fundraiser for all four of our teams throughout the year. It's a big thing as far as scholarship money for Quest athletics. It's really helping pay for Quest athletics."

Woollard, who also coaches the Quest women's basketball team, said this year's tournament should have a similar format to last year's. There will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start and fun activities planned at several holes. There will also be a longest-drive and closest-to-the-pin competition. After the action on the links, golfers will head up to the school for a steak and chicken barbecue and awards banquet to conclude the event.

Woollard said the tournament gives Quest athletes a great chance to familiarize themselves with the community.

"It's a good opportunity for our student athletes to get out and meet the people that are supporting them financially," he said. "A person might drive in to check out one of our games but we don't really get a chance to say hello or thank you to our fans as much as we'd like to. With this tournament, our athletes will get a chance to have a conversation with locals and put a name to the face when you see them at a game later on in the year. It really helps our athletes get to know people."

Kermodes soccer players were set to go around town this week picking up donations for prizes from local businesses and it will be mostly the basketball players who will man the tables on the day of the event.

"The tournament has been growing every year and we're excited about this year's event," Woollard said. "It's a big one for us and we hope to get as many people from 麻豆社国产out as possible."

It costs $150 per player to take part in the event, or a discounted rate of $525 for a foursome. Registration can be done the day of the event but Woollard recommended to sign up as early as possible to ensure a spot. The tournament officially kicks off with registration at 11 a.m., and tee-off at 1 p.m.
