Quest men lose in playoffs

Kermodes eliminated in Pacwest quarterfinals

Playoffs were one and done for the Quest Kermodes men鈥檚 basketball team.

The team was an upset victim on the first day of the Pacwest playoffs in Abbotsford, losing to the sixth seeded Capilano University Blues 87-82 on Thursday (March 5).

Quest trailed by one after the first half but the Blues outscored the Kermodes 24-18 in the third quarter to hang on to the victory.

It was a disappointing end to season that had a lot of promise for Quest, as they lost the last five games of the season. The club was one of the top ranked teams in the country during the first half of the season and were ranked as the third seed with a record of 14 wins and seven losses heading into the playoffs. Losing key forward Connor Heinrichs to injury helped seal the fate for Quest, who struggled to fill his void in the lineup.

Guard Dallas Searles, who was also named the Pacwest regular season all-star second team, led Quest against the Blues with 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals. Michael Zayas-Duran added 12 points and a team high eight rebounds. Other players scoring in double digits were: Paul Getz (13), Dylan Kular (12) and Justin Tryon (10).

The game was the final game in Quest colours for graduating seniors Heinrichs, Kular, Tryon, Michael Powell and Daniel Hoffman.

The VIU Mariners defeated the Langara Falcons in the Pacwest men鈥檚 final on Saturday (March 7). For more information on Quest athletics, visit www.questkermodes.ca.
