Quest men's soccer team readies for season

Kermodes soccer team plays numerous exhibition games preparing for regular season

The Quest University men's soccer team took to the pitch on Thursday (Aug. 19) and Saturday (Aug. 21) playing a pair of exhibition games, as they move forward on their road to the regular season.

The Kermodes hosted 麻豆社国产FC, a Vancouver Metro Soccer League's Division 1 team, on Thursday (Aug. 19), and a win led head coach Adam Day to express satisfaction with his club's performance.

"It was a good start for us," Day said, of the 2-0 victory. "Everybody was hitting around 45 to 60 minutes on the field, and I think it was a decent overall showing. It's nice to have that winning mentality from the start, and as a team we were fairly pleased."

Alex Morgan and Mawuena Mallett tallied for the Kermodes against Squamish.

Saturday saw the team travel to Pitt Meadows to take on Dewdney United, their Division 1 U-21 men's squad. Day was content with the Kermodes 4-2 victory, but said he felt the team could have played a lot better.

"We said to the boys before the game that we wanted to carry the momentum from Thursday, but we weren't entirely happy with our performance," he said.

"Fitness wise, we were struggling a bit, which was alarming. Overall I don't think the boys were sharp enough and needed to be more organized out there."

Day did take some positives away from the match.

"Last year we struggled to score goals but we've scored six goals in two games this preseason, which I think is a good sign," he said.

The Kermodes return to their training for the remainder of this week, but have a mini-tournament Saturday (Aug. 28) at Quest University field.

The University of British Columbia and Everett, Washington's Trinity Lutheran College travel to 麻豆社国产for a series of games Saturday (Aug. 28), with competition starting at 1 p.m.

The team kicks off its regular season on Sept. 11, when they take on the Vancouver Island University Mariners.
