The calendar changed since the last time the Quest Kermodes women’s basketball team hit the floor, but the end result was the same for the club’s first game in 2015 – another win.
Quest continued its undefeated season with a 69-56 win over the Capilano Blues in North Vancouver on Friday to improve to a perfect eight wins and zero losses on the season.
The Kermodes built up a five-point lead after the first half but then pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Blues 18-10. Quest had its trademark balanced scoring with Shayna Cameron leading the way with 24 points.
Miriam Baumann had a monster game with 14 points and a team high 17 rebounds, while Katrin Sandbichler added 13 rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Aimee Johnston and Abbey Piazza also scored 10 points apiece in the win.
Quest sits in first place in the Pacwest and now have a two game lead on second place Douglas College.
The Quest men’s team was also up to the task but needed overtime to defeat the Blues, winning 86-81 on Friday.
Quest topped Capilano 12-7 in the extra frame and have now won four straight. The men’s team improved to seven wins and one loss on the season and are in second place in the Pacwest.
Theo Vandenekart led the way for Quest with 24 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. The Kermodes also got strong nights from Connor Heinrichs (16 points and eight rebounds) and Dallas Searles (16 points, 11 rebounds and four assists) in the win.
Quest’s month long road trip continues this Friday, Jan. 16, when both teams travel to Surrey to battle the Kwantlen Eagles. The Kermodes then take on the Columbia Bible College Bearcats in Abbotsford on Saturday.
