Quest women ready for Montreal

Women's b-ball team qualifies for nationals for first time ever

The Quest University Kermodes women's basketball team is off to la belle province and they're hoping to return to 麻豆社国产with some national gold.

Fresh off winning the Pacwest provincial tournament on March 1, the Kermodes will represent their conference and the province at the small-university Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Nationals.

Other conference champions at the tournament include: the Nomades de Montmorency (RSEQ, Quebec), St. Thomas Tommies (ACAA, New Brunswick), Algonquin Thunder (OCCA, Ontario) and MacEwan Griffins (ACAC, Alberta).

Wild-card teams that qualified for the tournament are the Holland Hurricanes from PEI and the Augustana Vikings from Alberta. Also qualifying for the tournament are the host Champlain St-Lambert Cavaliers from Quebec.

The Kermodes are ranked fifth and match up against the MacEwan Griffins from Edmonton in their first game on Thursday (March 13) at 1 p.m.

The Griffins finished the regular season with a record of 19 wins and two losses. They went on a 17-game winning streak from November to February and won the ACAC title after beating the Augustana 74-65 on March 2.

Quest, on the other hand, finished the regular season with a record of 16 wins and five losses and then won all three playoff games to capture the Pacwest title.

MacEwan outscored opponents by an average of 25 points over the season and were led by forward Megan Wood, who averaged 20.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Forward Kelly Fagan was another top player, averaging 9.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and two blocks per game.

If Quest wins, they play on Friday (March 14) and take on the winner between the Vikings and the Nomades and if they lose they play the loser of the game. The Nomades are the defending CCAA champions and are seeded first for the tournament.
