The annual Race for Life event put on by the 麻豆社国产BMX club was again a success, raising $3,150 for leukemia research at the B.C. Children's Hospital.
It's a nice start for the club, which will continue to raise money until Aug. 15. 麻豆社国产BMX president Vicki Schenk said her club is collecting donations at the Mini-Metal on June 17 and club members are also going door to door to raise money. She said most kids are trying to raise a minimum of $500 each.
The event also saw the return of local rider Nick Geddes to the tracks. Geddes was the inspiration for the Race for Life event last year after it was discovered he had leukemia last spring. Geddes thanked everyone for coming out and for making it possible for him to be out racing again nine months after his bone marrow transplant.
