Re-match set for HSMSL finals

Khalsa, Galileo to meet again in championship game

There's a little dash of d茅j脿 vu in the finals of the Howe Sound Men's Soccer League (HSMSL).

For the second consecutive year, Khalsa will battle Galileo after semifinal action concluded on Sunday (April 1).

Khalsa eked out a 3-2 win in a shootout over Automind and it was largely thanks to the efforts of goalkeeper Jeremy Galley. He made two huge stops in the shootout and then clinched the win with a shootout goal of his own.

"We came out pretty slow but finally got it together in the second half," he said. "As a goalie in the shootout, you pretty much just have to guess to make a save and I guessed right."

Automind put up a fight, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first half after Charlie Robinson and Griffin Dare put them on the board. But the second half belonged to Khalsa, which got goals from Mark Sedgwick and Todd Rippon to even the score. After two scoreless 15-minute overtime periods, the game went to a shootout and Khalsa scored on all four of its opportunities to secure the win.

Despite the loss, Automind head coach Dave Harrison was pleased with his team's effort.

"It was a great game from us," he said. "Everyone played really well and for us to take the top team in the league to a shootout is a good game for us. I thought it was a pretty even game throughout and if our guys keep on growing and improving, we should be a force next year."

The other semifinal game saw Galileo upset Sikh Temple 2-1. Statistics for the game were not available at press time.

Temple will play Automind in the third-place game on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m., while Khalsa and Galileo will lock horns at 3 p.m. in the HSMSL championship game. Last year's game saw Galileo edge Khalsa 3-2 in a shootout.
