Ricker named to Canadian snowboard team

麻豆社国产resident gearing up for 2014 Olympic Games

Squamish's Maelle Ricker will officially rejoin her teammates for the 2013-14 season on the Canadian National Snowboard Team.

The team announced its roster for the coming season on July 10 and Ricker will again be leaned on as a key member of the snowboard cross team this winter.

It was a successful 2012-13 season for Ricker, winning the snowboard cross national championships at Big White back on March 31 and also qualifying for the 2014 Winter Olympics Games in Sochi with a gold medal run at the FIS World Championships in Quebec in January.

Last season, the team set a new record with 55 podium finishes. Highlights included medals from 20 FIS World Cups, 14 WorldSnowboardTour contests, nine Winter X Games and four FIS World Championships.

Canadiansalso won two WorldSnowboardTour titles and one Crystal Globe award. The 2014 National Team consists of 19 male and 14 female athletes from the following disciplines: slopestyle, halfpipe,snowboardcross, parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom.

"I'm very proud of our 2014 team," said Canada Snowboard Executive Director Steven Hill in a press release. "The next few months will be tough for the athletes, but I know they will all work hard to achieve their Olympic goals. We also have several strong medal contenders so it will be exciting to see the Olympic Games unfold."

Ricker is one of six team members to have already qualified for Sochi. The team can qualify a maximum of 24 athletes for the Games amongst the five disciplines.

The snowboard cross team is expected to the slopes in World Cup action starting in December, with domestic events also occurring in that time period.
