Romanin wins silver in Whistler

Â鶹Éç¹ú²úskier places second in slalom race

Squamish’s Nathan Romanin finished up the 2014-15 ski season much the way he raced all year – with medals draped around his neck.

He concluded a strong season with a silver medal in the U14 Boys slalom at the Whistler Cup on Saturday (April 4) and had a narrowly missed the podium on the other two days of the three-day event.

Romanin placed fourth in a dual slalom race on Friday (April 3) and placed fifth in the Giant Slalom on Sunday (April 5).

He can add the silver medal to the trio of gold medals he took home at the Fidelity U14 Can Ams in Revelstoke on March 22.

Squamish’s Kasper Woolley also had a strong couple of days at the event, with a seventh place finish at the U16 Boys GS race on Sunday and an 18th place showing at the Super G on Friday.

Woolley has ripped up the slopes this season, with medal wins in TECK races earlier this year and an impressive showing at the BC Winter Games in February.

Success on the slopes seems to run in the genes for the Woolley family, as Kasper’s sister Maja Woolley had three top 10 finishes in the U14 Girls division. Maja’s best showing was an eighth place finish at the slalom on Sunday, but she also had a ninth place showing in the dual slalom on Friday and finished 10th at the GS on Saturday.

Squamish’s Gemma Bexton battled Maja in the U14 Girls division, finishing 26th in the GS on Saturday and 61st in the slalom on Sunday.

Also competing in the U14 Boys division was Zachariah Ross, with a 50th place finish in the GS on Sunday and placing 59th in the slalom on Saturday.

Team Canada was shut out of the team-based trophies awarded at the end of the event, with Team Norway winning the U16 Nations Cup and Team Japan winning the U14 Nations Cup.
