Rose blooms on North Shore

麻豆社国产resident has strong showing at festival

麻豆社国产resident Megan Rose proved that familiarity breeds success at the North Shore Bike Fest (NSBF), which took place from June 3 to 5.

Rose, who lived on the North Shore for more than two years before recently moving to Squamish, had strong finishes in all three races at the festival. She posted the second fastest elite women's time in Friday's (June 3) Prorogue, was third in Saturday's (June 4) cross-country race and won the Sunday's (June 5) Super D race.

"The weekend was great," she said. "It was exciting that they added in the three events to make a full weekend of the North Shore Festival. I lived there for the last two and a half years so it's nice to race on your local trails that you know well. It gives you that hometown advantage, which I needed."

Rose suffered a concussion earlier this year but made a solid return to the biking scene in late May, placing third in the Nimby 50 in Pemberton.

"I have been unable to ride all spring as have been out with a concussion for two and a half months, so I just started back a few weeks ago and am just excited to be out riding again," she said.

Rose said the NSBF is among the more challenging races in the Hell of a Series.

"The technical aspect of the course and style of the trails does set it apart from the rest," she said. "There is no real rest point in this race, everything seems like work and you have to always be switched on."

She also explained her success in the Super D was a result of her comfort in the downhill style of race.

"Technical downhill is my strength in cross country races," she said. "I am not the best or fastest climber, so I need to try and make up for lost time. When they had a Super D option this year, I was sold. The first few trails were pretty gnarly, and a lot of us ran those, and then the fun began after we got through that."

She noted that the entire NSBF is a great chance for all within the biking industry to come together and celebrate.

"The highlight for me would be how all the industry comes together to bring the biking community to one central location and provide some fun and festivities for all people on the shore," she said. "The volunteers and bike festival side of the weekend were amazing and so well organized."

Next up for Rose will be the Wade's Excellent Adventure event, which takes place on Mount Fromme on Saturday (June 11). Rose said she plans to take part in the Test of Metal on June 18 before embarking on a busy summer with stops in Fernie and Oregon, along with a road ride relay across Canada in August.
