Squamish's Lauren Rosser finished 27th in her first event at the UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships this week in Champéry, Switzerland.

Competing in the Junior Women's cross-country race on Wednesday (Aug. 31), Rosser finished in one hour, nine minutes, 51 seconds, 12:21 behind winner Linda Indergand of Switzerland. Rosser was the fourth-fastest Canadian in the race, trailing Frédérique Trudel of Breakyville, Que. (12th), Andréanne Lanthier-Nadeau of Quebec City (16th) and Hayley Smith of Uxbridge, Ont. (22nd).

Rosser, the Canadian champion in downhill, is also a member of the Canadian downhill team competing at the world championships, which continue through Sunday (Sept. 4).

Also on Wednesday, Canada's cross-country relay team, comprised of Catharine Pendrel of Kamloops, Max Plaxton of Victoria, Evan McNeely of Kingston, Ont., and Alexandre Vialle of Prévost, Que., placed seventh. France won the relay event.
