SDBA gearing up for busy winter

Dirt bike group hosting school, promoting local trails

January isn't typically a busy month for the 麻豆社国产Dirt Bike Association (SDBA), but 2014 seems to be a unique exception.

The SDBA's Cat Lake location was the host of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Rider Clinic on Sunday (Jan. 19) and later this month the SDBA will be in Abbotsford at the Motorcycle Show at Tradex to promote the arrival of a brand new dirt bike school to the club's Cat Lake location.

The Cat Lake site has been officially identified as one of three British Columbia Off-Road Motorcycle Association (BCORMA) dirt bike schools in the province. With the others being located in Kamloops and Kelowna, it's expected that the Cat Lake location will host riders from the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and the Sea to Sky Corridor.

The goals of the schools are to get new riders interested in the sport. The Cat Lake trails being used in the school will be beginner and novice rides and organizers hope that with experienced instructors showing them the ropes, that riders will learn to love the sport.

After the first session this Sunday (Jan. 26), Cat Lake will be the site of a Level 1 rider course on Feb. 8 and 9. Those interested can sign up online at www.bcorma.ca.

BCORMA is a provincial federation that supports more than 25 clubs and their riding areas throughout B.C. and lobbies on a provincial and federal level on behalf of off-road motorcycle ridersin B.C.

Buying a BCORMA trail pass or taking one of the group's courses helps the SDBA maintain and upgrade trails around Squamish. Collectively, riders are assisting BCORMAto remain sustainable and continue with efforts to keep riding areas open as well asdemonstrate a strong voice in efforts for positive changes riders feel strongly about inprotecting our riding areas.
