Sikh Temple sitting pretty

Newly formed team alone on top of HSMSL

Although the season is only two weeks old, a new team has emerged as a potential powerhouse in the Howe Sound Men's Soccer League (HSMSL).

Sikh Temple, building off of an impressive 6-2 win over Automind in Week 1, served notice that it is for real by defeating Khalsa by 3-1 in a heated affair on Sunday (Sept. 18).

Four yellows and one red card were handed out in the game, but Sikh Temple picked up the win and now sits alone atop the standings with a record of two wins and no losses.

Bruno Fratis picked up a pair of goals, with Gurpreet Rua adding a single for Temple. Gary O'Neil scored the lone goal for Khalsa, which dropped to one win and one loss on the season.

The early games on Sunday saw the Ellis Moving Eagles and Automind play to a 3-3 draw. Cam Ellis scored two for the Eagles, with Matt Rollinson also tallying. Dane Sweeney, Richie Istvan and Brent Williston replied for Automind. The Eagles sit in second place with one win and one draw, while Automind stands in fifth with one loss and one draw.

In the league's other game, Galileo took out Zephyr by a score of 8-1. Robbie Nahanee, Kyle Smith and Mark Hrehirchek all recorded multiple-goal games for Galileo, with Mark Gabriel adding a single. Alex Valleau scored for Zephyr.

This weekend will see Zephyr take on Khalsa, Sikh Temple battle Ellis and Automind match up against Galileo in the afternoon game.
