Only one man was left standing after the most intense competition in the history of the Whistle Punk Hollow mini-golf course.
Dustin "Spider" Silva stood alone on top of the 麻豆社国产mini-golf scene after a spectacular showing at the first-ever Mini-Putt Classic on Thursday (Aug. 22).
Silva won his first-round foursome with a low score of 42 to advance to the final four showdown, where he scored another 42 to beat out second-place finisher Travis Jordan by two strokes.
"It feels great," Silva said after the big win.
He noted that he's become a regular at the course, telling The Chief he's played 25 to 30 times since the course opened earlier this summer.
"There's a group of me and my buddies that come pretty often," he said, noting he eliminated his friend Brandon Canning from the competition in the opening round. "The trash talking can start now. They put us together and I took him out."
Silva said his strategy is to set himself up to at least make par on each hole. He said he's knowledgeable about the course but still has trouble with hole 15, which features three distinct rocks that players need to shoot between to reach the hole.
He said Whistle Punk Hollow is a perfect addition to Squamish.
"We live pretty close by and we were watching them build it," he said. "It's a great course. Me and my buddies are golfers so this is pretty good practice."
He added that he will "100 per cent" be back next year to defend his crown.
Mountain FM helped organize and host the event. Carl Brown, the station's promotions manager and one-third of the morning team, said it was a great debut.
"It couldn't have gone better," he said. "We were blessed today with the weather and it was great to see the competitors really get into it."
Brown said he was pleased with the "gallery" that showed up and cheered on the golfers. He added that the Mini-Putt Classic will become an annual event and likely have the same format in 2014.
