Christy "Raven Chaos" Keyland of the Sirens smashes into a member of the Betties during the Sirens bout at Brennan Park Arena on Saturday (June 2).

The Sea To Sky Sirens welcomed the Black Diamond Betties into the world of roller derby with an elbow to the face, clobbering the brand new team 241-56 in front of a packed house at Brennan Park Arena on Saturday (June 2).

The Sirens scored early and often, much to the delight of the over 800 boisterous fans in attendance. The squad built a 39-4 lead after just 10 minutes and cruised to the win.

It was an awesome win and the girls worked really hard tonight, said Geneveive Honey Badger Medrano after the win. We all worked together, this isn't a one girl team and the new girls on the team are so good.

Medrano set the tone with the bout's first jam, scoring four points and added 18 more in the first half. She then thrilled the audience with a game high 22-point jam in the second half. She said practicing and coaching have made a huge difference in her game.

We've done a lot of practicing since last year and learned a lot more about strategy, she said. And our coaching has helped us out a lot.

She added that the Sirens were thrilled with the sell out crowd and praised the work of Betties in their first bout.

They did great, she said. We're really good friends with those girls and are looking forward to play them again.

The Betties will get a chance for revenge when they return to Brennan Park Arena on July 21 and Va Va Voom La Doom of the Betties was blunt when asked for the team's goal the next time they face the Sirens.

We want to beat Squamish, she said. But today we had a lot of fun and it was a bit of a learning curve for us out there. We need to work on strategy and just playing together as a team, penalties were also a big problem for us. But now we know what it's like to play with a referee and we're going to learn from this.

The Betties will next travel to Revelstoke on June 23 to take on the brand new team known as the Derailers.

Other top scorers for the Sirens included Christy Raven Chaos Keyland with 56 points, Snuff Voluptious with 28 points and Spunky Monkey with a team high 61.

The next home bout for the Sirens will take place on June 23 when the Harbour City Rollers from Nanaimo come to town. Last year the Rollers beat the Sirens 167-124, ruining the local team's debut bout.
