Whistler's Black Diamond Betties burst onto the flat track at Brennan Park on Saturday night (July 21) in full pirate getup, showing no signs of intimidation in front of the home derby team, the Sea to Sky Sirens.
With seven weeks of hard training and road trips, the now-seasoned Betties were looking for redemption in the aftermath of their debut performance at Brennan Park on June 2, where the Sirens stormed the rookie team by almost 200 points.
Victory eluded the Whistler team again on Saturday (July 21), but their performance was applauded by all after a 186-158 Sirens triumph.
I'm so proud of my girls, said Betties coach Kill Bill Sirota.
They worked really hard and for us, that was a win. We're a brand new team. To play a second-year team and only lose by 28 points? That's something to be proud of.
Lori Princess Slayah O'Hare led the charge for Whistler early on in the first half with aggressive passing and one particular collision taking down Sirens jammer Danielle Mysty Mischief Shaw. O'Hare managed to peg the highest scoring jam of the bout with 30 points and scored 82 points in the bout, but the Betties were unable to secure the lead over the course of the match.
The Sirens wasted no time getting their star jammer Genevieve Honey Badger Medrano on the track. She scored the first 15 points within the opening two minutes of the game. With the acceleration of a sprinter, Medrano managed to slip by walls of Betties blockers almost effortlessly, widening the score gap several times in the first half. But alternating jammers O'Hare and Rhonda Va Va Voom La Doom Maddin ensured the Betties were not left in the Sirens' wake. The first half closed at 135-95 in favour of the home team.
The second half was when the tension began to run high and despite several successful jams from Honey Badger and Carin Sweetie Gonzalez Smolinski, the fortified walls of Betties blockers managed to stem the Sirens' scoring while incurring minimal penalties. Several players were making their debut for the Betties on Saturday's bout. All performed beyond Sirota's expectations.
We dressed four rookies and still had a hell of a game against them, said Sirota.
As the bout's highest scoring jammer with 108 points, Honey Badger had the 麻豆社国产fans out of their seats and screaming her name.

With her unrivalled derby popularity at Brennan Park, Medrano now considers herself local to 麻豆社国产and attributes her success in the sport to her amazing and talented team and of course, the local fan base.
(Squamish) is known for having the best crowd. I've heard that from so many refs and every team that comes here, she said.
When asked what she thought of the Betties' performance on Saturday night, she replied, Whistler has definitely improved. They're going to be a strong team and I'm really happy for them. I can't wait to play them next year.
