Slacklining world unites at Hevyfest

Sixth annual festival taking over Nexen Beach

The slackers are coming back to Nexen Beach.

The sixth annual Hevyfest returns to 麻豆社国产on Saturday (July 27) and the celebration of all things slacklining will take over the beach from 2 to 7 p.m.

Recognized as North America's original slacklining festival, Hevyfest 2013 is billed as a fully interactive, fitness-oriented and family-friendly event. The free event is open to all ages and will feature more than 2,000 feet of slacklines for all skill levels.

This year will see the return of the long waterline over Howe Sound and also a special area for kids. There will be volunteers on site to assist newcomers to the sport and answer any questions they may have.

Slacklining is a balance sport that uses nylon webbing yanked between two anchor points. It's distinct from tightrope walking in that the line is not held rigidly taut. Although it is still under a lot of tension, it is instead dynamic, stretching and bouncing like a long, narrow trampoline.

The line's tension can be adjusted to suit the user, and different types of dynamic webbing can be used to achieve a variety of feats. The line itself is flat, because of the nature of webbing, thus keeping the slacker's foot from rolling as would be the case with an ordinary rope. The dynamic nature of the line allows for impressive tricks and stunts.

Attendees are encouraged to check out the after party for the event at the Ruddy Duck Bar and Grill starting at 10 p.m. For more information on the event, visit www.facebook.com/pages/Hevy-Fest/100321820059446.
