Smith battling for title belt

麻豆社国产fighter receives bantamweight title shot

Squamish鈥檚 Cole Smith is re-entering the Battlefield Fight League (BFL) cage and this time he had a chance to win some gold.

The mixed martial artist, fresh off a tour of training in Southeast Asia, gets a shot at the BFL bantamweight title on Saturday (March 28) in Richmond. Smith takes on Kirk Tse, with the winner taking home the vacant championship title.

Smith enters the cage with a BFL record of two wins and one loss, while Tse has four wins and two losses. Tse is ranked second in the bantamweight division and Smith is ranked fourth.

He last fought in BFL back in August and lost to Bradley Nicholson after the referee stopped the bout due to Smith鈥檚 excessive blood loss from an accidental head butt.

Since then, Smith has been training with Team Quest in Thailand. He competed at Full Metal Dojo 3 in Bangkok on Nov. 22, but lost to Ali Motamed in round two via submission.

Tse鈥檚 last match saw him lose via TKO to Craig Maclean in December.

In other local MMA news, Squamish鈥檚 Jamey Horth is set to make her debut in the sport on April 10 at the Croatian Cultural Centre in Vancouver.

Horth takes on fighter Mariana Cracogna at the April Annihilation show for the Gionco International promotions group.
