Smith ready to slam in Squamish

Third-generation wrestler teaming up in the main event

He's conquered Japan and the next stop on the Harry Smith world tour is Squamish.

The third-generation professional wrestler and son of the late British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith is coming to town with All Star Wrestling (ASW) on April 27 to showcase his skills in the main event.

Since parting ways with the WWE in 2011, Smith has travelled the globe and taken on all comers inside the squared circle. The former WWE tag-team champion has wrestled all over North America, competed in India and more recently in Japan with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW).

Time in Japan is going really good, he told The Chief. I love Japan a lot. Japan is the most amazing place I've ever been to. The people's manners are impeccable, nobody steals anything, everybody is respectful and it has the lowest crime rate in the world. Japanese women are amazing, could you ask for more?

It doesn't hurt that Smith's success in North America has transferred over to the Land of the Rising Sun. He's half of the tag-team champions for NJPW and has racked up a number of impressive wins over top Japanese stars.

Wrestling has been a lifelong passion for Smith, but he's also delving into the world of mixed martial arts (MMA). He trains regularly in the sport and has discussed competing full-time in that world.

It's going great, he said of his MMA training. I've learned so much, but I need to learn a lot more too. But yes, I think it's in the future the near future.

In the nearer future will be the ASW show. Smith will team up with Squamish's own Cody TKO Smith (no relation) to take on the Fabulous Fabio and the Mad Bomber Nelson Creed. Cody Smith said he's thrilled to be tagging with Harry and getting a chance to learn from someone trained firsthand by the legendary Hart family.

When I got word that I would be tagging with Harry Smith, first I was excited, then nervous, but now am looking forward to tagging with one of the last graduating students of the Stu Hart Dungeon, he said. It's been an honour, privilege and all-around dream of mine to step in the squared circle, either against or with a member of the Hart family.

Harry said he's also looking forward to the match and teaming with Cody.

I think Cody and I shall be Ichiban No. 1, he said. We shall win.

It all goes down on April 27 at Totem Hall. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the bell will ring for the opening match at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for front row, $15 for ringside or $12 for bleacher seats.

Fans are also invited to meet the wrestlers after the show at the Rock Bar inside Chances Casino for the show's official after-party. For more information on ASW, visit www.aswcanada.com.
