Jeff Norman, president of SORCA, said there will be a few different events that people can look forward to, which include a scavenger hunt and a race.
“The idea is we get members of the community to draw some funny signs that we put up,” said Norman. “People go around and see how many of the trails that they can hit this weekend.”
He added that there are 29 trails involved in the scavenger hunt, which represents the 29th birthday of the organization. The photograph clues to SORCA’s website, which also notes that people do not need to complete all 29 trails in order to get a chance at a prize.
Norman also said there would be a timed racing event, that he noted would be the first timed racing event they have hosted since the pandemic started. The race is set to start at Mamquam Falls at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30 and will be about a 12-kilometre ride throughout Valleycliffe.
In total, the event will cost about $7, which is a little bit more expensive than in previous years. But, Norman said this event usually has a great turnout among the community.
“I hope everyone gets out there to enjoy themselves on the sunny weekend. It’s been a long time coming.”
This will be the last event of the 2021 season, he added, but there still will be some ongoing trail work to be done before the end of the year, which he credited to the strong membership SORCA had this year.
“Thanks to the record membership here this year, with over 2,650 people signed up for their memberships,” he said. “Because of that, we have a few more resources to keep our trail crew going a little bit longer and keep contractors on a little longer.”
