It may have been a win via forfeit but the Howe Sound Sounders rugby team will take it.
After Vancouver College no-showed on Friday (May 4), the Sounders picked up their first "win," bouncing back after dropping a 24-19 decision at home to McMath Secondary School on Thursday (May 3).
Filipe Cuellar, Jag Tatla and Griffin Dare all scored tries, with Dare successfully kicking a pair of two-point conversions after the tries.
"The team played a great game and are really learning the game," said Sounders head coach Rob Lepine. "David Marlow, Brandon Lewis, Josh Watts and Jeff Tang were all particularly outstanding."
The Sounders had a re-match against Vancouver College on Wednesday (May 9) but results were not available at press time.
In other local rugby news, the Sea to Sky Eagles Rugby League Football Club will make their debut on Saturday (May 12) at the Mamquam Elementary School field. The Eagles will host the Kelowna Crows at 2 p.m. and the game will mark the first-ever rugby league game in British Columbia.
