For the second time in the last three years, the Howe Sound Sounders football club's season is over at the hands of the Frank Hurt Hornets.
The Hornets eliminated the Sounders with a 42-6 win in Surrey on Friday (Nov. 16) and the game wasn't a whole lot different from the Hornets' 44-8 win over Howe Sound back in September.
We went into the game with a different plan but the results were exactly the same, Sounders coach Jim Errington wrote in an email. We just couldn't stop their top players and anytime they needed yards, they just beat us on the outside.
Frank Hurt put together another impressive offensive performance, gaining 342 yards of total offence, including 252 yards on the ground. Howe Sound tallied 192 yards of offence and were led by wide receiver Norbi Richter, who grabbed five catches for 70 yards. Josh Tackleberry led the way on the ground with 53 yards rushing on 13 carries. Quarterback Rolan Mendoza scored the Sounders' lone touchdown.
Mendoza and Adam Stangowitz led the way defensively, picking up five and four tackles, respectively. Richter snagged Howe Sound's only interception, while Stangowitz was the lone Sounder to sack the Hornets' quarterback.
Despite the team's early exit from the playoffs, Errington said he was content with the team's season.
We went five and four over the season which isn't bad for being such a young and inexperienced team, he said. The only real disappointment this year was the scores by which we were beaten in our losses. We haven't experienced those kind of numbers before and hopefully won't again.
Errington also praised the community and all the Sounders volunteers for running a tight ship off the field.

In other local football news, the Sea to Sky Pee Wee Titans' season is also done after they lost 18-6 in the first round of the playoffs to the North Vancouver 49ers on Sunday (Nov. 18).
Adam Kilmchuck-Brown scored the lone touchdown for the Titans, who finished the regular season with a record of six wins, three losses and one tie.
