Sounders happy about rugby return

New club says goodbye to 2012, looks ahead to next season

The Howe Sound Sounders rugby club has hung up the cleats for this season.

The Howe Sound Secondary School (HSS) rugby team wrapped up its season earlier this month with a game against St. George's in Vancouver, followed by an intrasquad game and awards ceremony at the school.

It was the first time in several years that the school put together a rugby team and head coach Rob Lepine was pleased with how the season played out.

"The team showed amazing progress throughout the season and everyone improved," said Lepine

This season's standouts were Josh Watts as most valuable player for the forwards, Cam Dare most valuable player for the backs and Brandon Lewis for leadership. Jacob Decook and Simon Hoefer were sportsmen of the year and David Marlow was most improved forward with Ben Wade as most improved back.

The Sounders put together a final record of two wins, four losses and two exhibition losses in the team's first year playing in Tier 2 of the B.C. Secondary Schools Rugby Union.

"This was a learning year and overall an excellent season for a first year team" added Lepine."With so many of our strong players returning, next year should be even better."
