Sounders lose two in a row

Howe Sound dropped to one win and two losses on the season

After kicking off the AAA season with a win at home, the Howe Sound Sounders have dropped two straight games in high school rugby action.听

Howe Sound travelled to Burnaby on April 15 to take on Caribou Hill Secondary Chargers, but fell 38-5. Head coach Rob Lepine said the loss can be attributed to defensive breakdowns and bad luck.

鈥淭hey broke free from our defence on multiple occasions to run all the way down for a try,鈥 he said in an email. 鈥淏ut Howe Sound played really well, dominating the game in the first half and we definitely had possession of the ball for 75 per cent of the game.鈥

Ben Wade scored the lone try for the Sounders and Rolan Mendoza was named the man of the match by the Chargers.听

The Sounders returned home on Thursday (April 17), but suffered a loss to the Seycove Secondary Seahawks. Lepine said Howe Sound played well, but dealt with fatigue issues.

Lepine praised the team鈥檚 overall rucking ability and specifically mentioned the strong play of one of the team鈥檚 captains, Dominik Kalita. Mendoza was again named the man of the match for this game, marking the third consecutive time he has received that honour.

Howe Sound dropped to one win and two losses on the season and returns to Burnaby on Thursday (April 24) at 4 p.m. to battle the Moscrop Panthers. Lepine said the Sounders are due for a victory.

鈥淚鈥檓 very excited for this game, especially since the team is really starting to pull together,鈥 he said. 鈥淭hey are beginning to take advantage of opportunities and playing well with each other.鈥
