Sounders ousted from playoffs

Howe Sound b-ball squad taken out by Bodwell

It turned out to be one and done for the Howe Sound Sounders senior boys basketball team.

Howe Sound travelled to St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary in North Vancouver to take on the Bodwell Bruins in Round 1 of the playoffs on Thursday (Feb. 13) but lost 69-57.

The Sounders fell behind 23-4 after the first quarter and made it somewhat interesting late in the game, but couldn't make up for their poor start.

Head coach Max Roy said turnovers cost his team but a full four-quarter effort was needed to defeat Bodwell.

"Turnovers in the first half hurt us," he said. "We had 18 and they got about 20 points off of them - that was the difference. We played way better in the last three quarters but to win, we needed to play a full four quarters."

The next big event for the team is the Sea to Sky Tournament at Howe Sound Secondary School on Feb. 28. For more information on local high school athletics, visit www.sd48howesound.org/programs/athletics.
