Sounders ready for playoffs

It's game time for the rugby league

Playoffs loom for the first time ever for the Howe Sound Sounders rugby team.

The Sounders finished the season with a loss to the McNair Marlins on May 1 to complete the season with a record of one win and four losses, but head coach Rob Lepine said he saw a lot of good things in the game.

鈥淚鈥檓 happy with the team鈥檚 performance and even though it would have been nice to come away with a win going into playoffs, the team handled it well,鈥 he said in an email.

He noted that the Sounders only had 17 players make the trip to Richmond for the game, but said players Dominik Kalita and Ben Wade had strong games.

鈥淏en Wade was awarded man of the match and it was greatly deserved because he was truly a driving force on the team, keeping the positive attitude up and taking advantage of the other team鈥檚 fumbles,鈥 he said.听

鈥淒ominik Kalita has really stepped up this year in the forwards and this game in particular. Playing hooker the majority of the game (a position he was unfamiliar with), he really stepped up to the plate and won us most of the scrums, both defensive and offensive. He has been a solid player this year that the coaches can definitely rely on to take charge on the field and lead the team.鈥

Howe Sound now gets a chance to extract some revenge on Seycove on Thursday (May 8) in Round 1 of the playoffs. Seycove defeated the Sounders 60-0 in 麻豆社国产back on April 17.听
