The offensive struggles continue for the Howe Sound Sounders football club.
For the second straight game, the Sounders failed to score a point and were shut out by Timberline 12-0 on Saturday (Oct. 5).
Howe Sound managed only 92 yards of total offence on 43 plays and Sounders Coach Jim Errington said his team just couldn't score even with good field position.
"We had a couple of good offensive plays, but couldn't put anything," he wrote in an email. "Three times we were in the red zone and couldn't do anything. We really need to take a good look at why we are not putting points on the board. We even failed to score from the 5-yard line."
The Sounders' defence held Timberline to 143 yards but the Wolves ate them up on the ground, with several big runs. Howe Sound gave up 131 total yards on the ground.
"There is still some confusion on our responsibilities on defence which we need to address," Errington said. "But overall they played a pretty solid game."
He praised the defensive play of Adam Stangowitz, who had a team-high five tackles. Cam Dare was the top offensive player with 82 yards rushing, while Stangowitz caught four passes for 21 yards to lead all receivers.
Howe Sound's record dropped to two wins and three losses. The Sounders will look to get back on the winning track when they host the Earl Marriott Mariners on Sunday (Oct. 12). Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
