The Howe Sound Sounders senior boys basketball team returned from Gibsons with some hardware after winning the Cougar Classic tournament last weekend.
"It was a great tournament. This is how boys' basketball should be, exciting close games where boys can show their skills in pressure situations," said Sounders head coach Ron Roberts.
The tournament saw eight teams from the Sea to Sky Corridor, the Lower Mainland and the Sunshine Coast hit the hardwood for three games apiece.
The Sounders started the weekend strong, crushing Pender Harbour 79-39 on Friday (Jan. 7). Next up was a game on Saturday (Jan. 8) against the Chatelech Eagles. Khris Jamir hit an 18-footer with two seconds left in overtime as the Sounders beat the Eagles 66-64 and advanced to the finals.
In the finals, Howe Sound beat St John's Secondary 69-66 to capture the title. Jamir and Justin Chung were named to the all-tournament team and were key contributors to the Sounders' victory.
Next up for the team will be a game on Tuesday (Jan. 18) against Rockridge Secondary School. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Howe Sound Secondary gym.
