It's almost time to hit the water again for the 麻豆社国产Paddling Club (SPC).
The club recently released its 2012 schedule and is looking forward to a busy spring and summer season.
"We are going to do a combination of social paddles for those people that want a good chat with friends on the Sound as well as Monday night toonie paddles that will be timed," said the SPC's Ian Lowe. "The races and social paddles will be for all boat types including but not limited to sea kayaks, stand-up paddlers, surf skis, canoes and outrigger boats.
"Not only are we trying to attract our regular paddling crowd this summer, but also any other athletes that are dealing with any lower-body injuries as most paddling is easy on knees and ankles."
The first social paddle race will take place on April 15 and will see paddlers travel from Nexen Beach to Galileo Coffee in Britannia Beach. The 9.5-kilometre jaunt is planned to push off at 9 a.m. Toonie races kick off on May 14 at 6:45 p.m. and participants will be asked to complete two full laps of the Catermole Slough.
Unlike previous years, social paddles and toonie races will take place in several different locations around Squamish. The SPC is planning on running one social paddle a month until September and seven toonie races from May to August.
The SPC will also host four more drop-in pool sessions at Brennan Park on every Saturday in April. The sessions last from 8 to 9:30 p.m. and cost $5 with your own gear or $10 to use club gear.
