The results are out for a recent cross-country skiing competition, with several 麻豆社国产kids clinching strong rankings. Five local athletes were able to carve out top placements among the more than 650 competitors in this year鈥檚 Sigge鈥檚 P鈥檃yakentsut at Whistler Olympic Park on Feb. 26. Competitions were divided into 15, 30 and 50 km races.

Locals grabbed respectable rankings in the 15 km female mass start race. Linnea Uunila grabbed 3rd place with a time of 0:44:08.34. Eleven-year-old Marin Lowe and 12-year-old Sofie Hill also managed to place 12th and 13th with times of 0:50:56.06 and 0:50:57.84.

麻豆社国产also showed a strong performance at the 5km kids鈥 mini race. Ryan Sweeny placed 1st in the boys鈥 category with a time of 0:04:29.06. Josie Clifford skate skied through the finish line at 0:17:58.63, placing fourth in the girls鈥 category.

Basketball provincials

The PACWest Basketball provincials were hosted by Quest University this past weekend. Both the men and women鈥檚 team lost in the quarterfinals with scores of 80-86 against the Douglas Royals and 77-88 against the Camosun Chargers, respectively. The tournament, which took place over three days, ended on Saturday with the final men鈥檚 game taking place between the VIU Mariners and the Capilano Blues. The Mariners took the gold and Blues the silver with a final score of 94-77.

The Douglas Royals took the bronze medal over the Langara Falcons with a score of 83-71. The final women鈥檚 game took place between the Capilano Blues and the Douglas Royals. The Royals took the gold and Blues the silver with a final score of 70-63. The VIU Mariners defeated the Camosun Chargers for the bronze medalwith a score of 79-57. Congratulations to all teams on a successful season and to the men鈥檚 VIU Mariners and the Women鈥檚 Douglas Royals who will be going to Nationals at Holland College in Charlottetown, P.E.I. and at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton, Alta.

鈥‥lementary basketball jamboree

After a very successful elementary basketball season, School District 48 is excited to announce that they will be having a Sea to Sky School District 鈥淓lementary Co-ed 3-on-3 Basketball Jamboree鈥 on Friday, March 10 from 2:30 5:00 p.m. at Don Ross Middle School. After a few years without elementary basketball, the school district is excited about this event and for all the kids that are participating. They would like to invite the public to attend the tournament and support some of Squamish鈥檚 young athletes.

Local girls take on junior nationals for freestyle skiing听
听
Five 麻豆社国产athletes are getting ready to take on the junior nationals for freestyle skiing on Friday. Freestyle BC, an association of provincial ski clubs, will be sending local girls to participate in the U16 and U14 divisions in Le Relais, Quebec. Ava Dunham will be representing 麻豆社国产in the U16 category. In the U14 division, Cassidy Butterworth and Lynnette Conn will be representing the town along with best-friend duo Chase Capicik and Malica Malherbe, who are the two youngest 12-year-olds in the field.

All four of the U14 girls are from Don Ross Secondary. The five girls have all skied under the Whistler Blackcomb Freestyle Development program under Bradley, a former two-time Olympic freestyle skier. They鈥檝e also all gone through the Slayers Ski Camp, which is made up of a majority of 麻豆社国产kids. After they鈥檙e done tackling the slopes, the girls will be tackling different challenges, such as a bowl of poutine 鈥 the final day of the trip will be set aside for exploring Quebec City. 听
