The Equestrian Buckle Series Gymkhana Games hosted by Â鶹Éç¹ú²úEquestrian Gymkhana this weekend included five events: flag race, keyhole, stakes race, pole-bending and barrel race.
Results for peewee (9 and younger) were: first - Montana Pereman 1:73.02; second - Emmy Fietz 2:18.05; third - Zoey Verloop- 3:03.97; fourth - Lucas McCarthy 3:98.20; fifth -Ìý Paisley Pereman 4:44.66; and sixth - Freya Dobbin 1:45.11 (game missed).

Field hockey sessions
Â鶹Éç¹ú²úField Hockey is holding spring sessions and looking for more recruits.
The sessions will run Sundays from 5 to 7 p.m. through June at Quest University’s field. The sessions are U9, U12, U14 and U17.Ìý

Cannons win pairÌý
In Saturday’s first game, the Howe Sound Cannons trailed the Blue Jays 1-0 until Kurtis Malm tied up the game with a solo home run in the bottom of fourth. The Cannons later scored four in the bottom of sixth to break things open and secure the 5-1 win. Jeremy Galley threw a complete game for the victory.Ìý
In the second game of the day, the Cannons faced Whistler and jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings. Whistler got back into the game with a grand slam in the fourth, but the Cannons would add a few insurance runs in the late innings. Malm got his first career win, throwing four innings, while Sean Calligari and Jack Thompson combined out of the bullpen to shut the door in the final three innings.Ìý

Whitecaps clinic
The Vancouver Whitecaps will be holding a community clinic at Brennan Park Thursday (May 19) from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The clinics provide an introduction to soccer for young children. The Whitecaps will provide coaching and skill sessions, followed by a World Cup-style tournament and autograph sessions.

Hitmen defeat Colts
The Howe Sound Hitmen bantam football team won a close one against the Colts on the weekend in flag football. A back-and-forth first half had the Colts leading 13-12 midway.Ìý
In the second half, the defence came through and the offence picked up, with Kolby Wilton coming on to play quarterback later in the game. He hit Reniel Belandres on a 20-yard buttonhook for the major, as Howe Sound went up 24-21. They held on for the win to go 2-0 to start the season. With four TDs, Belandres was named player of the game.
The junior Hitmen followed with a game against the Eagles. Howe Sound went down early, trailing 19-0 at halftime. Things picked up on both sides of the ball in the second half, and the team was able to get the score to 19-12 at one point before giving up another touchdown to the Eagles, who won 26-12.
Coach Troy Wilton said one of the challenges, especially on defence, is getting enough commitment from players for practice.Ìý
The team is looking for donations to help with equipment for the tackle season in the fall.

Martial Arts open house
Flow Training Centre is celebrating its first anniversary with an open house on May 28 from 9 to 3 p.m. The event will kick off with a black belt graduation followed by games, public lessons, food and demonstrations from the ninja training and taekwondo programs.
The Taekwondo athletes have been competing in the Olympic sport all over the West Coast and have brought home more than 30 medals. Flow Training Centre is also home of the Â鶹Éç¹ú²úNinja Training program.

Sound dominates Can-Am
Members of The Sound gym dominated at the 37th Can-Am International Martial Arts Championships in Richmond on the weekend.Ìý
Indroop VirkÌý won gold and championship belts in kickboxing and gold in modified pankration. Taran Bir was champion in kickboxing and fought in the division with the most competitors.
Gwynn Berry took silver in advanced. Jamey Horth Wessels won championship belt in woman’s kickboxing. Marcus Lambertus was one fight from reaching finals.Ìý
