Hot On Your Heels
Hot On Your Heels, a women-only endure race, now in its fifth year, attracted a record-breaking number of competitors over the July 23-24 weekend, as 254 women raced the 24-kilometre course in the Garibaldi Highlands.
Mical Dyck, Veronica Voracek and Nikola Starko were the top three in the pro category. Aja Philp, Marilyne Aubin and Sarah Moore were the top finishers in the open category. Among the master riders, Genevieve Demers, Elladee Brown and Meghan Illingworth finished on the podium.
Hot On Your Heels sold out in three days. Its aim is to encourage more women to take up the sport, according to an article on Pinkbike.com. The event raised more than $4,100 for the mentorship program, Go Girl.
Slab done
The new surface that will sit under the ice inside the arena at Brennan Park is now done.
The District of 麻豆社国产announced on July 25 that the work has been completed. There is also a short time-lapse video on the district鈥檚 website that shows the process of resurfacing the slab. It can be found under Projects & Initiatives/Arena Slab Replacement.
Other work at the arena this summer has included upgrading a dehumidifier, a new system for ice resurfacing and dressing room heat replacement.
Summer Fete
麻豆社国产Valley鈥檚 Mountain Horse School is throwing open its gates Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. and inviting the community to come and enjoy their 鈥淪ummer Fete,鈥� a farm experience that will offer pony rides, face painting, small animal snuggles, a photo booth, as well as the opportunity to learn about the school.
