Skiers make podium
麻豆社国产members of the Whistler Mountain Ski Club hit the podium at the recent TECK Open Round 1 at Sun Peaks held Jan. 5 to 8.
There were two days each of slalom and giant slalom racing for the U16 skiers.
Nathan Romanin took first place on each of the days for giant slalom and first on day two of the slalom after getting a DNF/DNS on the first day.
Maja Woolley took first on the first day of the giant slalom and second on day two. For the slalom events, she finished second on the first day and first on the second.
Both Romanin and Woolley have been chosen by B.C. Alpine as 鈥淩ising Stars鈥 and have been taking part in some extra training camps with athletes from across Western Canada.
SORCA AGM
The 麻豆社国产Off-Road Cycling Association holds its annual general meeting on Thursday, Jan. 12. It starts at 7 p.m. at Howe Sound Brewing.
There will be a recap of what happened in 2016 as well as information on plans for the coming year.
Several positions are also up for election, including president and directors of XC Toonies, social rides, funding, government relations, IT, communications and special events.
Quest back on court
Coming off Christmas break, Quest鈥檚 Kermodes were on Vancouver Island for road games this weekend.
The women鈥檚 team dropped Friday鈥檚 game to the VIU Mariners 70-48. Jordin Wilkinson was the only Kermode to crack double figures in scoring, leading the way with 14 points.
The next day, Quest rebounded to beat Camosun 71-61. Wilkinson again led the team in scoring with 19 points, while Tessa Needham and Kimmy Aburegeba each scored 10. Kyra Boulding and Emily Lachenmayer grabbed 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively. The men lost a couple of close ones, coming up short against VIU 81-75 on Friday. Dallas Searles scored 26 points to lead Quest, while Noah DeRappard-Yuswack had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
On Saturday, Quest lost to Camosun 75-72. Again, Searles led the way with 25 points and DeRappard-Yuswack had another double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Quest returns home Thursday and Friday. They host Langara tonight, starting at 6 p.m.
