Â鶹Éç¹ú²ú50 returns on Saturday

Second annual running event taking over local trails

While some attendees of the Â鶹Éç¹ú²úValley Music Festival might be going to bed, at the same time the trails of Â鶹Éç¹ú²úwill be packed with competitors at the second annual Â鶹Éç¹ú²ú50 race on Saturday (Aug. 10).

Action gets underway bright and early with 50-mile runners gathering at the Â鶹Éç¹ú²úOceanfront for a 5:30 a.m. start. All 150 spots for the 50 mile were scooped up late in 2012 and a new 50-kilometre race has been added.

The 50km race kicks off at Alice Lake at 9 a.m., with the returning 23km race getting underway at Quest University at 8 a.m. A one-km kid's race is another new addition to the event, with runners meeting at Pavilion Park in Downtown Â鶹Éç¹ú²úat 10:30 a.m. The kids race is a free event for all children.

The 50-mile race features a course that is over 85 per cent single track and contains more than 12,000 feet of climbing elevation. The largest individual climb is approximately 2,500 feet.

Â鶹Éç¹ú²úresident Jason Loutitt won last year's inaugural race. He completed the course in 7:25:22. For more information on the event, visit www.squamish50.com.
