As 麻豆社国产skiers took to the slopes at the latest Timber Tour competition, many earned their place on the podium multiple times.
Chase Capicik earned a triple gold 鈥 again. After placing first in the under-16 category for moguls in January, Capicik has consistently earned her spot on the podium by following the first Timber Tour competition of the year with a triple gold at the Mt. Washington competition on Feb. 7 to 10. The young skier took home triple gold at last year鈥檚 Timber Tour in Whistler as well.
鈥淪he skied very well. It鈥檚 like every time she gets in there, she wants to win,鈥 her coach Jeff Fairburn said.
鈥淚t was a very challenging course,鈥 he said of the moguls. 鈥淚t wasn鈥檛 ideal and it was a bit of a risky jump at the bottom air with a very short landing space. The athletes actually had to jump pretty high to make it safely around.鈥
Other 麻豆社国产skiers took to the moguls well, with Malica Malherbe scorings a silver in moguls and slopestyle in the under 16 category.聽
Another 麻豆社国产skier earned a triple gold, as Avery Krumme took home the medals in the super youth category for slopestype, moguls and big air girls.
鈥淎very did really well. Not a regular at the competitions but she came along with one of the other families and took home three gold medals,鈥 said coach John Solomon.
鈥淪he was keeping her legs nice a tight, good technique through there. She always pushes. She always wants to go for the five or seven, she鈥檚 never happy just doing a 360 and calling it there. That鈥檚 what generally helps her out is that willingness to push.鈥
The Henderson siblings, Findlay and Zoe, brought home two medals each. Both Hendersons earned a silver in moguls and bronze in their big air categories.
Zoe 鈥渟kied the bumps really cleanly for someone who鈥檚 never trained with us,鈥 Solomon said. 鈥淪he did really well for someone who I think does the race program, she doesn鈥檛 normally ski the freestyle.鈥
Solomon鈥檚 advice for skiers going forward in the Timber Tour is 鈥渓isten to your coaches. Your coaches know what they鈥檙e doing, so listen to them.鈥
Representing 麻豆社国产in the under-14 boys鈥 category was Mattheus Heslop, who took home gold for slopestyle and big air. It鈥檚 the newcomer鈥檚 second double-gold in the 2019 Timber Tour competition, following his wins on Apex Mountain in January.聽
The last stop of the Timber Tour is at Silverstar from March 28 to 31. Until then, Capicik has a busy schedule on the road including the Junior Nationals, a Canada Cup, Senior Nationals and her first NorAm appearance.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a really prestigious event for an athlete at that age to earn a spot to,鈥 Fairburn said of NorAm.
鈥淭hat鈥檚 the real exciting step for her going forward鈥 She鈥檚 definitely going to be an athlete to look out for in the future.鈥
