麻豆社国产Pirates fare well at local meet

Several young swimmers post strong times at Brennan Park

The Brennan Park pool was a hub of activity with a total of 297 swimmers from seven clubs hitting the water on Sunday (May 25).听

The 麻豆社国产Pirates were well represented at the meet, with 41 swimmers from all age groups hitting the pool.

Alex Jevons, who was three points away from winning the aggregate award for best swimmer in her division, was the top local swimmer at the meet.

Jevons, competing in the Division 6 girls group, placed first in the 200-metre individual medley (IM), second in the 50 freestyle, third in the 50 fly and third in the 100 backstroke.

The eight-year veteran also had a pair of first-place finishes in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay with teammates Autumn Cramb, Vanessa Yendall and Selina Zajdler.

George Sherlock was the only other Pirate to grab an individual first-place result, as the Division 6 swimmer captured first in the 100 backstroke and also placed second in the 100 freestyle. Sherlock grabbed two more first-place showings in the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay with teammates Oli Jarrett, Brandon Cheal and Coram Baer.

Other top-three Pirates finishers included: Sarah Dale (second, Division 7 girls, 100 breaststroke), Jack Omeasoo (second, Division 5 boys, 50 freestyle), Eli Tindall (second, Division 5 boys, 100 backstroke and third, 100 freestyle), Mikayla Lorimer (second, Division 5 girls, 100 backstroke and third, 100 breaststroke), Jamie Gultiano (third 鈥 division one girls, 50 m fly), Jaina Jose (second 鈥 division one girls, 50 m fly and third 50 m fly), Kai Bolla (third, Division 1 boys, 50 breaststroke) and Ryan Sweeney (second, six and under, 50 backstroke).

The Pirates picked up another first-place finish in the boys Division 1 200 free relay with team members Bolla, Lukus Buck, Brian McDonald and Ryan Sweeney.

The other top-three relay finish for the Pirates was in the boys Division 2 200 (second) and the 200 free (third) with team members Elias Siermaczeski, Hunter Rekunyk, Ben Sweeney and Zachary Lorimer.听

Pirates president Dave Jevons said it was a good return to the water for the club.

The Pirates will continue practicing daily and travelling to meets throughout the Lower Mainland on weekends as they work towards the August regional qualifying meet in North Vancouver and the provincial meet in Kamloops.
