Several locals hit the trails in Whistler at 11th annual event

The 11th annual Crankworx took over Whistler from Aug. 8 to 17 and, just like previous years, Â鶹Éç¹ú²úresidents made an impact. 

Team Squamish’s Rhys Verner and Sean Fincham cleaned up at the Canada Cup Finals cross-country race on Aug. 15, as both riders won their respective divisions.

Verner finished first in the men’s junior expert division, completing his four laps in 1:23:11, and beating out second place rider Landen Beckner by 39 seconds.

Fincham dominated the men’s 13 to 18 division with a time of 1:04:09 in his three laps. He beat second place rider Drew Palmer-Leger by over five minutes in
the win.

Other locals competing at the race were: Brandi Heisterman (sixth – elite women), Quinn Moberg (10th – elite men) and Hunter Verner (16th – 13 to 18 men).

The SRAM Canadian Open Enduro also saw a number of Â鶹Éç¹ú²úresidents compete with the top showing coming from Carl Goldstraw, who placed second in the master men’s 40-plus division.

Others who participated included Rhys Verner (fourth – junior men) and Joel Harwood (sixth – master men 30 to 39).

The brand new Kidsworx event made its debut this year and Â鶹Éç¹ú²úyouth served well at the inaugural event.

Seth Sherlock had the top local finish, placing second in the 10 to 12 mixed cross-country race on Aug. 15. Other local youngsters competing included Teigen Pacual (ninth – 10 to 12 mixed) and Hunter DiMarzo (fifth – 7 to 9 mixed).

Bailey Goldstone excelled in the Kidsworx B-Line race on Aug. 11 with a second place finish. Other youngsters competing included Finn Finestone (fourth – 10 to 12 boys), Jakob Jewett (fifth – 10 to 12 boys), Jackson Goldstone (ninth – 10 to 12 boys), Dane Jewett (ninth – 7 to 9 mixed), Isaac Abell (32nd – 10 to 12 boys), and Tobias Abell (41st – 7 to 9 mixed).

The Garbanzo downhill race on Aug. 12 featured three local racers, with Holden Jones’ fifth place finish in the boys 13 to 15 division the best showing. 

Also competing were Raymond Richards (15th – senior men) and Chris Dzavik (22nd – senior men).

The Fox Air downhill on Aug. 13 had a lot of local flavour with the best finish coming from Jessie McAuley’s third place showing in the boys 13 to 15 division. Also picking up a third was Seth Sherlock in the Kidsworx 10 to 12 division.

Others competing at the Fox Air included Jakob Jewett (sixth – 10 to 12), Jackson Goldstone (seventh – 10 to 12), Finn Finestone (eighth – 10 to 12), Aaron Taylor (10th – master men), Jeremy Null (18th – master men), Logan Van Eestern (22nd – boys 13 to 15), Cooper Brown (23rd – boys 13 to 15), Cole Gimse (23rd – boys 13 to 15), Harry Head (36th – junior men) and Alex Hinkson (78th – pro men).

Aug. 15 after winning two earlier races and losing in the final.

The Canadian Open downhill race closed the event on Aug. 17 and Â鶹Éç¹ú²úwas well represented. Jessie McAuley had the best showing, with a fifth place finish in the boys 13 to 15 division. Others hitting the downhill trails were Sean Fincham (fifth – junior amateur men), Harry Head (10th – junior amateur men), Nick Barreau (35th – senior men) and Kip Shortreed (48th – pro men).

Meanwhile, Kyle Quesnel was the lone Â鶹Éç¹ú²úresident in the Clif Bar dual speed and style competition where he placed 17th.
