Verner wins pro men division as Enduro series returns

The 麻豆社国产Enduro series returned to local trails with the return of The Gryphon on Saturday (May 23).

Course details for The Gryphon weren鈥檛 released until May 21 but the five stages saw riders battle it out on Made in the Shade, Rupert, Entrails, Icy Hole of Death and Crouching Squirrel to Kiki鈥檚.聽

Each stage was timed and the event drew riders of all skill levels to the trails.聽

Squamish鈥檚 Rhys Verner won the pro men鈥檚 division with a cumulative time of 13:02, beating out Whistler鈥檚 Shane Gayton by 27 seconds. Verner won three of the five stages, with Matt Ryan winning the other two.

Whistler鈥檚 Leonie Picton won the pro women division, posting a cumulative time of 15:35 and winning four of five stages. Whistler鈥檚 Sarah Leishman was the only other rider to win a stage.

Despite not winning a single stage, Squamish鈥檚 Jack Cormack posted strong showings at each stage to post the fastest time in the junior men division. Cormack had three second-place finishes, a third and a fifth to win the division.聽

Stage winners included: Squamish鈥檚 Kasper Woolley (two) and Squamish's Jessie McAuley (three).

Other division winners at the event included: Whistler鈥檚 Christina Chappetta (open women), Squamish鈥檚 Pat Foster (open men), Squamish鈥檚 Tamsin Mills (master鈥檚 women) and Squamish鈥檚 Domenic Scorda (master鈥檚 men).

The next race in the 麻豆社国产Enduro series is the women鈥檚 only Hot On Your Heels race on July 25. The event is a fundraiser for the Go Girls! Healthy Bodies Healthy Mind program and features women only on the trails and men only as the race volunteers.
