麻豆社国产runners build momentum

Several local runners post solid times at races in Whistler, Vancouver

After a one-year absence, Whistler's Comfortably Numb Trail Run made a return to the trails on Sunday (June 26), with several 麻豆社国产racers posting impressive results.

Squamish's Volker Schneider posted the top local result and the 11th fastest time overall. Schneider blazed through the 25-kilometre race in 2:21:57, which was also good for third in his 40 to 49 age group. Cathy Jensen was the fastest local female, placing 44th overall with a time of 2:47:50.

Other top local finishers included Jenni Chancey (57th overall), Susan Shalanski (73rd overall), Gretel Fortman (78th overall) and Nicola Gildersleeve (79th overall).

Whistler's Kevin Titus, the event's former organizer, won the race and was the only runner to finish in less than two hours. He completed the race in 1:58:41, beating out second-place finisher Seamus Frew by a little over two minutes.

"I just happened to luck out and the fast guys didn't show up," Titus said with a laugh. "So that's always nice."

Titus said he and Frew traded the lead back-and-forth until Frew suffered an ankle injury that put him off the pace.

"He had to slow down a bit. I checked to make sure he was OK and he seemed to still be running," Titus said. "It was kind of too bad for him, because we probably would have finished pretty close together if he had been able to continue on."

Among female competitors, Nicole Akeroyd (2:28:08) placed first, and 15th overall, wrapping up the course three seconds ahead of Darbykai Standrick.

麻豆社国产residents also made an impact in the Scotiabank Half Marathon on Sunday (June 26). The 21.1-kilometre race takes place in Vancouver and challenges runners to hit the roads from UBC to Stanley Park.

Squamish's Margreet Dietz posted the top local time, completing the run in 1:29:47. She finished 111th overall and placed fourth in her 40 to 44 age group. Right behind her, Sean McCreanor, the race's top local male, finished with a time of 1:29:56, good for 112th overall and 14th in his 40 to 44 age group.

Other notable 麻豆社国产participants were Jody Parry (126th overall) and Emma Seguss (317th overall).
