Â鶹Éç¹ú²úrunners were well represented at the first Run Â鶹Éç¹ú²úevent at Alice Lake on Saturday (May 23).
The annual Loop the Lakes kicked off the debut of the Run Â鶹Éç¹ú²úseries with hundreds hitting the trails on a cloudy and mild morning.
Squamish’s Jacob Smith took home top prize in the men’s 21-kilometre race, posting a time of 1:38:16. Smith edged out second place finisher Riccardo Tortini from Vancouver by 20 seconds. Vancouver’s Daryl Wood placed third with a time of 1:40:05.
A local runner also won the 21 km female division, with Squamish’s Caroline Walter (1:52:02) beating Vancouver’s Tara Holland by 17 seconds. Squamish’s Jasmin Caton grabbed third place with a time of 1:54:59.
Squamish’s Eric Goodwin won the men’s 15 km race, crushing the competition and beating the second-place racer Kristian Manietta from Whistler by almost seven minutes. Vancouver’s Tim Wiens finished third, posting a time of 1:20:38.
Whistler reigned in the women’s 15 km division, as Jennifer Demard beat Squamish’s Ciara Mcloughlin by 78 seconds to score first place. Third place also belonged to Whistler, as Stephanie King reached the podium with a time of 1:29:19.
Â鶹Éç¹ú²úalso had a winner in the men’s 8 km division, with Jacob Melville (41:28). The women’s 8 km was a Â鶹Éç¹ú²úsweep, with local runners Dawn Hertz (47:21), Wendy Jewett (48:17) and Alison Walker (50:59) finishing first, second and third respectively.
The event also featured dozens of kids taking to the trails in a 1 km race.Â
The next race in the Run Â鶹Éç¹ú²úseries is the Shannon Basin Loop trail run on June 13.Â
