Runners at the Shannon Basin Trail Run blast off the finish line on Saturday (June 13).

麻豆社国产runner Eric Goodwin again dominated the Shannon Basin Loop Trail Race on Saturday, winning the Run 麻豆社国产event for the second time in a row and improving upon his previous time by nearly two minutes.

Goodwin finished the 10k race in 42:57.5, almost a minute ahead of second place finisher Kris Butler at 43:53.2. In third place was Jacob Smith, coming in at 43:59.5.

Goodwin said despite his improved time, Saturday鈥檚 race was definitely more competitive than last year鈥檚 inaugural edition.

鈥淚t was a lot of fun,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t was a good, fast start. But last year, there was also the 21k Skyline Ridge Run happening at the same time as the 10k Shannon Basin Loop race, so a lot of the faster people were in the 21k and the 10k was a bit easier. But this year, everyone was in the same race so it was a lot more intimidating.鈥

Squamish鈥檚 Zoe Dawson was the top female finisher, crossing the finish line in 47:30, well ahead of second place women鈥檚 finisher Caroline Walter at 51:49.4. Third place in the female division was Jenna Nestman at 52:24.1.

This was Dawson鈥檚 first time competing in the 10-kilometre race.

鈥淚 didn鈥檛 run this last year, but I鈥檝e done the Loop the Lakes race before,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t was a great course, though. Everyone was telling me to expect this really big hill, so I was pacing myself, however having done the Sea to Sky Gondola Trail (an all vertical trail to the gondola鈥檚 Summit Lodge), it felt fine compared to that.鈥

Run Squamish鈥檚 Sean Verret said the two races, Skyline Ridge Run and the Shannon Basin Loop, were split up this year because of the previous year鈥檚 weather.

鈥淲e are planning to do the Skyline Ridge Run in October this year,鈥 he said. 鈥淲e split the races this year, because last year in June there was still snow on the Skyline route. So splitting things up meant that the field this year was tougher, because we didn鈥檛 have a half-marathon going on at the same time and all the fast runners were competing in the 10k.鈥

The next Run 麻豆社国产event is the 6 km Sea to Sky Scramble Trail Run at the gondola on Saturday (June 27). For more info, click to runsquamish.com.
